It is the fourth most visited city in Europe and 11th in the world, and has consistently ranked as one of the best cities in Europe in terms of quality of life. Barcelona is recognised as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts and international trade. Barcelona has a dynamic and open personality so typical of Mediterranean cities and is a perfect destination to relax, stroll around and enjoy. Barcelona has a fascinating history and is the cradle of many cultures and a witness to major transformations. The Mediterranean climate of Barcelona has rare days of extreme weather. In August the temperature ranges from a maximum of 29ºC to a minimum of 21ºC.</p> <p>The Scientific Committee, chaired by Montserrat Espuña-Pons, is working hard in order to provide an excellent scientific programme which will meet the high standards of the ICS. Three days of the best original research will follow two days of educational programme.</p> <p>The social programme will have a distinctly Spanish feel, making the most of local Catalonian culture and customs.
